Royal Welsh Show - Game tasters for all
The Royal Welsh Agricultural Show is renowned across the UK and Europe as one of the finest and largest agricultural shows. Thousands of stockmen and women attend each year to show their prime animals and try to attain one of the main coveted titles of "Best in Class", "Best in Breed" or the ultimate "Supreme Champion"
Whilst stock judging is the basis of the show, there is much more on offer showcasing the best produce of Wales and the UK. Dairy products, Horticulture, Sheep Shearing, Dancing diggers, Inter-Hunt relays, there is something for everyone.
We have been fortunate to attend for the previous 3 shows, under the kind Invitation of the "Countryside Alliance" and working alongside "Castell Howell" chefs. We supply an abundance and choice of different game meats for the chefs -Stewart Williams and Steve Owen, to supply the passing public with a taste of Game.
This year some of the delicacies on offer were Venison Meatballs, Pheasant Satay Skewers and Rabbit tacos! Developing these street food style creations caught the imagination of the public, many of which had never tried Game, but were very keen to engage and all said it is a meat they would be happy to eat again, or would order if offered on a restaurant menu!!
We also hosted 50+ local authority procurement officers from all over Wales for a luncheon. Inevitably they were fed Game, in this instance Green Thai Pheasant curry, of which they all seemed to enjoy. The object of this assignment was to show case the possibility of Game Meat providing a Healthy, Nutritious and Tasty menu option for hospitals. The idea was met with much enthusiasm, and so hopefully Game will feature on a Welsh hospital menu shortly.
Overall, the week was a success. I really enjoy engaging with people new to Game meat, and feel it is so important to promote this underrated sustainable source of protein. Both Chefs are brilliant at "normalising" Game and full of enthusiasm for the product! The rest of the team on the CA stand are a great gang, very passionate and great fun.
Look forward to the 2025 show.
